In a groundbreaking move, the Junagadh Police has introduced a novel approach to security by incorporating paramotor surveillance over the route of the annual Girnar Lili Parikrama. This initiative aims to enhance security measures for the revered event, which commenced on November 23rd and is expected to attract approximately 15 lakh devotees.
Harshad Mehta, the Superintendent of Police for Junagadh district, personally oversaw the route using a paraglider. He explained, "If surveillance is needed for areas that are not communicable and do not have access to vehicular transport, then we are using paramotor surveillance."
The paramotor, described as a non-fixed-wing adventure sports glider, accommodates one officer accompanied by a pilot to conduct aerial surveillance. Equipped with wireless headphones and a 360-degree surveillance camera, the paramotor enables effective monitoring of regions that are challenging to reach through traditional means.
The Girnar Lili Parikrama spans a total distance of 36 km and unfolds over five days, commencing on Devuthni Ekadashi and concluding on Kartik Purnamashi. The event holds great religious significance, drawing devotees in large numbers. The decision to incorporate paramotor surveillance showcases the police's commitment to leveraging innovative methods to ensure the safety and security of participants, particularly in areas where accessibility is limited.
This proactive approach by Junagadh Police not only highlights the importance of adapting to contemporary challenges but also underscores the role of technology and adventure sports in modern law enforcement. As paramotor surveillance becomes an integral part of the security strategy for the Girnar Lili Parikrama, it sets a precedent for the potential application of such techniques in managing large-scale events with varied terrains and accessibility issues.
