In a remarkable display of courage and quick thinking, a Railway security guard averted a potential tragedy by rescuing an elderly man who had fallen on the tracks just as a train approached Vapi station in Gujarat. The heart-stopping incident, captured by a CCTV camera, showcases the risks taken by railway personnel to ensure passenger safety.

The footage reveals a common scenario of people crossing tracks, a practice widely discouraged and dangerous across the country. As several individuals navigate the tracks to move between platforms, a Government Railway Police (GRP) guard assists one person struggling to get on the platform.

Meanwhile, an elderly man is seen crossing the tracks just as the Surat-Bandra Terminus Intercity train is entering the station around 6 pm. In a precarious moment, the elderly man trips and falls between the tracks, perilously close to the oncoming train.

With split-second timing, GRP personnel Veerabhai Meru leaps off the platform and rushes towards the fallen passenger. As the train approaches, he manages to reach the elderly man, pulling him away from the tracks just in the nick of time. The oncoming train passes safely, and a potential tragedy is averted.

Despite persistent warnings, fines, and guidelines against track crossings, such incidents remain prevalent, with passengers often opting for this perilous shortcut to save time. The existence of CCTV cameras at stations has become crucial in documenting these incidents, shedding light on the risks faced by security personnel and bystanders who prioritize passenger safety over personal safety in critical moments.
