Gujarat: Fire breaks out at Fortune Mall in Surat, two women dead | VIDEO

Acting upon receiving a call about the fire incident inside a mall in a busy market, the fire brigade officers rushed to the spot and initiated a dousing operation.

A massive fire broke out on the third floor of Fortune Mall in Surat City in which two women died on Wednesday. Fifteen fire tender reached the spot.

As the news of a fire incident at Surat City's mall spread people in a large number gathered on the City Light Road. The incident created panic among the people. According to the primary reports, the fire broke out in a Spa and Gym operating inside the mall. Two women died of suffocation, said the officials.

Fifteen fire tenders and around 20 personnel doused the fire after around an hour and a half, said deputy fire officer Ishvar Patel.

"A fire broke out in a spa centre located on the third floor of Shiv Puja Complex in Athwa Lines area. There were five women inside, three of whom escaped but two others hid in the washroom and stated a water spray (to douse the flames). They died from asphyxiation due to the smoke," Patel said.

The deceased were identified as Amita (25) and Alisha (27).

he fire appeared to have been caused by a short circuit and further probe was underway, the official said.

Fire brigade officials and the local police officials vacated the mall and nearby areas as a precautionary measure.

Fire breaks out in Patna scrap shop

In another incident, a fire broke out at a shop dealing in scrap items in the Shastri Nagar area of Patna. Six fire tenders which were pressed into service brought the blaze under control, police said.
 
“The fire broke out at around 7.15 pm at a shop dealing in scrap items. Officials of the local police station and fire brigade immediately reached the spot. The fire was brought under control by 8.45 pm," Station House Officer of Shastri Nagar Police Station Amar Kumar said.
