A dispute over the bursting of firecrackers during Diwali festivities in Gujarat's Ahmedabad city turned deadly when a group of people attacked a man and his family. The incident occurred around 10 pm on Sunday in the Ramol locality of the city.
Four individuals were quarreling with residents who were celebrating with firecrackers in a residential society. The accused fatally stabbed Vijay Shankar Banshilal (44), who worked as an autorickshaw driver, and his son, Dhirendra Singh. Additionally, Banshilal's 17-year-old nephew was injured when he attempted to intervene during the attack, according to the initial police report.
The accused had a previous quarrel with the victims' relatives a few days before the incident. The situation escalated when the accused began abusing the victims, recalling the previous disagreement. One of the accused, Deepak Marathi, stabbed Singh in the stomach. As Banshilal rushed to protect his son, he was stabbed four times by the other assailants.
An ambulance transported the victims to a government hospital, where both the father and son were declared dead while their injured relative received treatment. One of the accused individuals has been arrested, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other three.
