The Cadaver of a Muslim youth donor turns into a blessing for three patients as it gave them a fresh lease of life. The three organ recipients were suffering from Kidney and Liver ailments.
The first organ recipient
Balu Bhai, 49 was suffering from improper kidney function since 2016 and registered for the cadaver donor programme in 2019. Balu is employed with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and is a resident of Nirnaynagar Ahmedabad. Balu’s wife was ready to donate but she was found diabetic during tests. His attempt to get a kidney under the cadaver donation programme was rejected thrice due to some anomalies in medical tests but the fourth time his luck worked. His test results matched that of the cadaver of Muslim youth who died in a road accident in Surat. He is recuperating at IKDRC in the Civil Hospital compound.

Another Kidney of a Muslim man’s cadaver was transplanted on Hasmukh Bhai, 39 a handicap from Vadodara who was on dialysis for the last 6 years. He was suffering from kidney ailments since 2012 and registered himself for the cadaver program in 2018. He was third time lucky in receiving a perfect match for a transplant.
At the young age of 5, Khushbu Mistry turned diabetic and was insulin in childhood and about six years back her pancreas failed. Now 22, Khushbu studied nursing and registered with the cadaver programme in 2022. Pancreas harvested from Muslim youth’s cadaver matched the test results of Khushbu. She is recuperating at IKDRC and under post-operative care these days.
Sunil Pathak,56 was a Ranji player and led Gujarat Team in the 80s and early 90s but developed an alcoholic liver later on. Pathak was transplanted with a liver through a cadaver donor match within eight months after he registered himself with the cadaver donor programme. “I never imagined that I would be so lucky that in less than a year I will get a cadaver liver. I am thankful to the IKDRC team to offer me the best transplant service available,” said a beaming Pathak from his hospital bed.
