A tragic incident unfolded in Gujarat's Surat on Saturday, where a 58-year-old woman, her two sisters, and her brother-in-law were found dead in their apartment. The police suspect asphyxiation led to the deaths of four as a gas-powered geyser was left running; however, they mentioned that the exact cause of the death is yet to be ascertained.

Speaking of the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) R. P. Barot said that the police were alerted to the situation around 9 a.m. when one of the deceased's sons went to check on four sleeping in a room around 8 a.m. However, the police said that when he found them in an unconscious state, he immediately informed the police.

The police said the deceased were identified as Jasuben Vadhel, the flat owner, her sisters Shantaben Vadhel (53) and Gauriben Mevad (55), and Gauriben's husband Hirabhai (60). The victims reportedly went to bed around 10 p.m. on Friday.

Moreover, the police mentioned that while the initial suspicion points towards asphyxiation due to the running gas-powered geyser, a thorough investigation would be conducted, checking all possible angles, including foul play. "The possibility of suicide appears slim, but we are leaving no stone unturned in our investigation," Barot mentioned.

Further, the police also informed that the victims have vomited, and samples from the scene have been sent for examination, and the bodies have been sent for a postmortem.
