Survey of more than 1100 madrasas in Gujarat is being done

On the orders of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), a survey of more than 1100 madrasas in Gujarat is being conducted. Among them are 205 madrasas in Ahmedabad city and rural areas. The orders were given to investigate and map the non-Muslim children going to madrasas. The survey has also been ordered to map the unmapped madrasas. The NCPCR, has ordered the survey to investigate whether it is necessary for children studying in madrasas to study in a normal school or not, and submit a report.

This is the reason why the survey is being conducted

Earlier on May 7, the NCPCR had written a letter to the Chief Secretary of Gujarat, after which the survey work started in Ahmedabad on 11 issues. The survey strides to procure all the information about the madrasa operators. Also, if any trust or institution is associated with the madrasa operation, then its information is also being fetched along with the information about the salary being given to the teachers.

Moreover, the fees collected from the children and the money received as donations to the madrasa is also being surveyed.

What authorities say?

On the survey being conducted in the madrasas of Gujarat, Ahmedabad Education Officer Lagdhir Desai said that the biggest objective of the survey being conducted in madrasas is to find out whether the children are getting the fundamental rights under the RTE Act or not. He said that as many as 175 teams have gone to multiple madrasas In Ahmedabad for the survey. According to him, the government has no objection if children are being given religious education and that the survey is being conducted only to find out whether children are getting their basic rights or not.
