Gujarat news: In a significant breakthrough, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch intercepted a parcel from a foreign post office in the USA, seizing hybrid marijuana valued at ₹3.50 crores along with drugs in liquid form. This parcel was part of a larger consignment of 58 parcels received from Canada and the USA, where drugs were ingeniously concealed within diapers and sarees.
The intercepted courier from the USA was linked to a previous shipment involving hybrid marijuana and liquid drugs. Acting on prior intelligence about this illegal consignment, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch successfully seized the parcel at the airport before it could be delivered. This operation sheds light on a recurring pattern, as similar drugs had previously been sourced through the dark web.
No one claimed parcel: Police
According to officials from the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, no one has yet come forward to claim the seized drugs. Investigations reveal that these parcels are typically ordered to fictitious addresses via the dark web. When the parcels are out for delivery, the receivers contact the delivery person to collect the parcels at neutral locations, and then destroy the SIM cards used for these communications, making it challenging to trace the culprits.
Authorities are continuing their efforts to track down other unnoticed parcels that might have been overlooked. This meticulous search aims to uncover any remaining shipments that have slipped through the cracks.
The modus operandi of the smugglers involves hiding drugs in a variety of everyday items, including children's toys, books, diapers, and other tools, making detection difficult.
