India TV Fact Check: Several pictures and videos related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi make rounds on social media. Some of them represent the real event, while others turn out to be fake. Meanwhile, a picture of him has caught the attention of people on social media, wherein, he was seen wearing a skull cap. The objectionable text with the viral picture claimed that PM Modi was wearing a skull cap. When we fact-checked this picture, the photo turned out to be completely fake.
What does the viral picture claim?
A user named @WeThePeople3009 had posted the picture on social media platform X on 13 February 2023. The caption accompanying this picture read, "Only devotees will answer (Bhakt log hi jawab denge)." Whereas, the text on the photo read, "Is this a dream? What will happen to the devotees who call him the Hindu Hriday Samrat? (Kahin ye sapna to nahi? Bhakton ka kya hoga jo inko Hindu hriday samrat kehte hein)"
We also found a similar post on Facebook, with which the same picture. This photo was shared on October 1, 2023. An account with the user name 'Balmiki Kumar' had shared this photo with objectionable text. The same picture was available on a Facebook page named 'With INC'. This photo was posted on February 12, 2023.
India TV did fact check
To get the truth, we dug deeper. For this, we did a Google reverse search of the picture and came across many results. Shortly, we found some pictures on the official Instagram account of All India Radio News. Among these pictures, there was the same pic but PM Modi was seen without the skull cap. It is understood that the viral photo was edited. The post was shared on February 10 and the caption read, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the new campus of Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah Arabic Academy at Marol in Mumbai. He was accompanied by the head of the Dawoodi Bohra community, His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin."
After this, we searched more about this news with the help of some keywords on Google. In the search results, we found the original pictures posted on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Modi had shared this post on February 10, 2023. With the picture, the Prime Minister wrote, "Delighted to join the programme to mark the inauguration of the new campus of @jamea_saifiyah in Mumbai. @Dawoodi_Bohras."
Result of the Fact Check
After the fact-check, it became crystal clear that the viral photo was completely fake. The original photo was posted by PM Modi himself, in which he was seen without a skull cap.
