Fact Check by India TV: A picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah is going viral on various social media platforms showing them wearing the white mesh cap associated with the Muslim religion. A user named Randhir Yadav shared this picture on Facebook. While sharing this picture, Randhir wrote, "Such a compulsion to gain power, they have to wear the cap." In India TV’s Fact Check, the picture turned out to be false.

Truth behind the picture

The picture of PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah being shared is edited and is far from being similar to the original picture. In fact, after the death of former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, PM Modi and Amit Shah visited Jaitley's family to offer their condolences. This picture was taken by news agency PTI at that time. In the picture, PM Modi and Amit Shah are seen leaving Arun Jaitley's house. In the original picture taken by PTI, Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are not wearing caps.

What did the fact-check reveal?

Randhir Yadav shared this post on Facebook on June 18. Upon investigating this news, a report was found on the Business Standard website. This news was published on September 17, 2019. The news used the original picture taken by PTI, featuring PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. The caption for this picture mentioned that PM Modi and Shah were leaving after offering their condolences to the family members of the former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at his residence in New Delhi. This news was published on September 17, 2019.

Fake picture shared

It should be noted that the difference between the news picture and the viral picture is that the news picture is normal. However, in the viral picture, PM Modi and Amit Shah are shown wearing caps. This clearly indicates that the viral picture is edited. It should be noted that this is not the first time this picture has been edited and circulated. Such attempts have been made before. Therefore, this picture is completely fake, and such news is entirely false.
