Indian audience had an overdose of typical Saas-Bahu dramas wherein the actresses are confined within six yards of clothes and a dozen of trinkets. But in a recent while, several TV serials have forayed into the world of television, with an off-beat subject and equally diverse characters. The female leads of the serials are no longer ‘damsels in distress’. Among all these strong-headed characters, there were some who managed to stand out and carve a niche for themselves. Here are some of the off-beat characters of the TV serials that will be remembered by the audience for their ingenuity.

Mouni Roy as Shivangi in Naagin

The supernatural role has been perfectly essayed by television’s most loved actress Mouni Roy. No wonder why the show became an instant hit among the audience. The way her character evolved from a normal human being to a vicious Naagin was well accepted by the Telephiles.

Rubina Dilaik as Soumya in Shakti- Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki

This is not the first time that Rubina Dilaik forayed into an unusual character. Before Shakti, she played the role of Hindu god Lord Krishna in Choti Bahu on Zee TV. After a sabbatical, she made a comeback on Colors TV, playing the role of a transgender.

Ridhima Pandit as Rajni in Bahu Humari Rajnikant

The gorgeous actress Ridhima Pandit played an out of the ordinary role as a ‘Robot Bahu’ in the serial Bahu Humari Rajnikant. The robotic avatar of an Indian bahu was well-received by the Indian audience. Though the show has gone off air now, but Ridhima will forever be loved for her robotic antics in Bahu Humari Rajnikant.

Pihu in Bhootu

It is one of the cutest ghosts you can ever come across on TV. This ghostly character is not scary at all. In fact, you’ll crave to cuddle this adorable ghost in real life. Pihu in the serial Bhootu is the friendliest ghost one could ever find. Arshiya Mukherjee, despite being so young, has nailed the role of a friendly ghost.

Farnaz Shetty as Mannu in Waaris

Farnaz Shetty is playing the role of a girl forcefully dressed like a boy in the serial Waaris. The actress who played the role of a typical Indian bahu on the shows like Veera and Ballika Vadhu has forayed into a completely venture this time.
