Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam 2 released last Friday and it is a sequel to his 2013 film Vishwaroopam. The film opened to mixed reviews from the critics. Both the films are directed by Kamal Haasan and he also plays the lead role in both the films. The film has made a good recovery after getting a slow start at the Tamil Nadu box office, recent reports suggest. The Tamil movie has done well in a few key centres that include Chennai and Chengalpet regions in the 3-day first weekend. Read: Viswaroopam 2 Movie Review
The early reports emerging from the trade circles have said that Vishwaroopam 2 has estimated to have earned a little over Rs 20 crore in the first weekend at the Tamil Nadu box office. The movie was released in limited screens and the uncertainity over its release badly impacted the business of the flick on the first day.
Besides Kamal Haasan, Vishwaroopam 2 has an ensemble cast of Rahul Bose, Shekhar Kapur, Pooja Kumar and Andrea Jeremiah return, Waheeda Rahman and Anant Mahadevan. On the first day, the film opened at 45% opening at the box office in its Hindi version.
Since Vishwaroopam 2 did not release during the festive season or on a long weekend, these present box office numbers are pretty surprising. Trade analyst Girish Johar revealed that the film minted Rs 9 crore worldwide in all languages at the end of day 1.
With these box office numbers, Vishwaroopam 2 is now the third biggest opener in Tamil cinema in 2018 after Rajinikanth's Kaala (Rs 21.7 crore) and Suriya's Thaana Serndha Kootam (Rs 10 crore).
