Sarkar Box Office Collection Day 10: Vijay starrer becomes highest-grossing South Indian film of 2018

Despite the many controversies surrounding South star Vijay’s latest release Sarkar, the movie has been setting the box office afire with its mind-blowing numbers. Sarkar has managed to cross the landmark of Rs 200 crore, worldwide. The AR Murugadoss-directed social drama is the eighth Rs 200 crore grosser from the southern film industry after Enthiran, I, Baahubali: The Beginning, Kabali, Mersal, Baahubali: The Conclusion and Rangasthalam. Prabhas, Rajinikanth and Vijay are the only two heroes from the south to have two Rs 200 crore global grossers each.

Taking into account the opening weekend offshore total of $8.75 million (Rs 63.13 crore) and the first-week domestic gross of Rs 154 crore, Sarkar, with its running global total of Rs 217.13 crore, has comfortably unseated Ram Charan's blockbuster Rangasthalam (Rs 215.7 crore) to emerge as the highest-grossing southern film of 2018.

In fact, Sarkar is currently the seventh highest-grossing Indian film of the year after Padmaavat, Sanju, Race 3, Baaghi 2, Hichki, and Thugs of Hindostan. The Sun Pictures production has also surpassed the lifetime total of Bollywood hits such as Akshay Kumar's Gold, and the Alia Bhatt-starrer Raazi.

Produced by Sun Pictures, Sarkar stars Thalapathy Vijay, Keerthy Suresh and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in leading roles. The film has surpassed the lifetime collections of Bollywood films like Alia Bhatt's Raazi and Akshay Kumar's Gold.

Sarkar has also seen huge collections in countries like Australia, New Zealand, UK and France.  Sarkar has also received a record-breaking opening at the Malaysian box office. The movie shattered the first-weekend record of the actor's previous release Mersal.
