Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which caused great buzz across India, released in China amid much expectations. However, the Prabhas and Anushka starrer has failed to impress the Chinese audience. After remaining on the lower side in its opening weekend, the magnum opus witnessed a huge dip on its first Monday in China. The action-adventure fantasy raked in around Rs 6.80 crore and currently stands with the total business of Rs 58 crore. The collections are literally below expectations, especially if we consider its domestic run in the last year. Looking at the current scenario, the film may struggle to even cross the Rs 100 crore mark there.
“The audience in China is looking for slice-of-life stories from India. If they wanted action-oriented movies with great graphics and special effects, Hollywood would be the best bet,” said independent trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai.
The film is a fantastical retelling of the Indian epic legends that revolve around the triumph of good over evil, packed with heavy-duty action and melodrama.
Since Avengers: Infinity War is releasing this Friday in the Chinese market, Baahubali 2 will face a huge crunch at the ticket windows. With the help of China collections, the film now stands with the worldwide total of Rs 1760 crore, which makes it the second highest Indian global grosser after Aamir Khan’s Dangal, which had earned over Rs 1200 crore in the Chinese market alone
Dirceted by SS Rajamouli, Baahubali 2 also starred Ranu Daggubati and Tammannah Bhatia in lead roles.
