Renowned Telugu actress Lakshmi Devi died at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Saturday morning due to age-related ailments. The actress (mother of popular actor Rajeev Kanakala) worked in films like Police Lock Up, Prema Bandham and Oka Vuri Katha and also ran a film training institute, which has trained the Tollywood stars such as Chiranjeevi and Allari Naresh. Lakshmi Devi (78) is survived by her husband Devdas Kanakala, son Rajeev Kanakala, daughter Sri Lakshmi, daughter-in-law Suma, son-in-law Ramarao and grandchildren.
The Tollywood film fraternity has been registering their heartfelt condolences on their social media pages to the bereaved members of the Kanakala family.
Movie Artistes Association (MAA) President Sivaji Raja and Secretary VK Naresh also expressed their condolences at Lakshmi Devi’s demise.
Jr NTR, Srikanth, Brahmaji and some other celebs also visited her house to pay their last tributes to her.
Lakshmi Devi Kanakala had been suffering from multiple age-related ailments. The actress was recently admitted to a private hospital in Hyderabad.
She breathed her last while undergoing treatment at the hospital on Saturday morning. Her last rights will reportedly be performed on Sunday afternoon.
In late 1980s, Lakshmi, who was a very popular face in Telugu cinema, along with her husband, Devdas Kanakala, who is also a popular actor in South film industry, started the film institute and have trained many popular actors of today’s generation. The actress, who was an acting instructor at the film institute that their family run, played a crucial role towards honing and encouraging young talent.
