Bengali film 'Bishorjon' was adjudged the 'Best Film' in popular category and its director Kaushik Ganguly got the 'Best Director' crown in the Jio Filmfare Awards East 2018.
The film also fetched honours in several other categories at the glittering award ceremony held here last night attended by the who's who of the Bengali film industry. Multiple national award winner in past years Kaushik Ganguly said, "Bishorjon received so many laurels because of the wonderful support and work of the entire team." The Filmfare East awarded Bengali films released in 2017.
While Ganguly got the best film and best director awards in popular category, Atanu Ghosh's 'Mayurakshi' was crowned as the 'Best Film' by 'Critics Choice' at the event.
A Jio Filmfare Awards statement said today, Prosenjit Chatterjee received the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male) for 'Mayurakshi' (popular) while Soumitra Chatterjee was given the Critics' Award for Best Actor (Male) in the same film.
Prosenjit Chatterjee said, "I am dedicating this award to the Bengali film audiences who had stood by us and supported the industry."
Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan got the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female) (Popular) crown for Bishorjan. Young actress Ishaa Saha received the Critics' Award for Best Actor (Female) in 'Projapoti Biskut'.
Director Ganguly also got the Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Male) category for 'Bishorjan' while veteran actress-danseuse Mamata Shankar got the Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Female) for 'Maacher Jhol'.
Director Mrinal Sen and veteran actress Sabitri Chatterjee were separately declared as 'Lifetime Achievement Award' recipients for their contributions in their respective fields.
Young film maker Manas Mukul Pal was named the 'Best Debut Director' for his 'Sahaj Paather Gappo' as the two child actors of the film Nur Islam and Samiul Alam were given the Best Debut (Male) honours.
Director Ganguly got the 'Best Original Story' for 'Bishorjan' while Pal received the 'Best Screenplay' award for
'Sahaj Paather Gappo'.
Upcoming actress Rukmini Maitra got the Best Debut (Female) award for 'Chaamp', 'Cockpit'. While the 'Best Playback Singer (Male)' award went to Nachiketa Chakraborty for the track 'Keno erokom kicchu holo na' in Posto, Chandrani Banerjee was named as the 'Best Playback Singer (Female)' for her rendition of the track 'Tomake bujhina priyo' in 'Projapoti Biskut'.
The Best Background Score went to Debojyoti Mishra for 'Mayurakshi'.
