2.0 in legal trouble ahead of release; complaint filed against Rajinikanth for promoting anti-scientific attitude
Just two days of its big release across the world, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 landed in some serious legal trouble. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) filed a complaint against the makers of 2.0 for promoting obscurantist and anti-scientific attitudes towards mobile phones, towers and mobile services. Akshay Kumar is playing an ornithologist who blames mobile phone users and cell-phone radiations for harming birds and animals. In the letter of complaint sent to the Central Board of Film Certification and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the complainants accused the filmmakers of falsely depicting mobile phones and mobile towers as harmful to living creatures and the environment including birds and human beings.

They have also asked CBFC to revoke the certification from 2.0 including the teaser and trailer with immediate effect. The association has also requested to suspend the movie until the demands in the complaint are met.
Meanwhile, 2.0 is witnessing massive numbers on advance bookings in theatres. The tickets of the first two days have been sold out already in some cinemas. The film, starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar is expected to shatter Thugs of Hindostan’s records of being the highest opener of all time. The Shankar film is expected to rake in around Rs 70 crore at the box office in India.

2.0 has also been rescheduled a number of times due to technical glitches and other reasons. Finally, it is releasing in theatres on November 29. It is a sequel of 2010 hit film Robot (Enthiran) which had Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai in lead roles.
