The Election commission has announced that it would appoint actor Rajkummar Rao as its national icon, ahead of upcoming elections. A formal ceremony to bestow this honour upon the actor will be held on Thursday, as confirmed by the election commission of India.
Rajkummar is yet to issue an official statement on the development.
The Election Commission of India recently disclosed that over 161 million people in five different states in India are gearing up to cast their votes in the upcoming assembly elections. The election schedule is as follows, Mizoram is set to hold elections on November 7. Chhattisgarh, which boasts a 90-member assembly, will see voting take place in two phases on November 7 and 17. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana are scheduled to head to the polls on November 17 and 30, respectively. Rajasthan, which was earlier scheduled to go to polls on November 23, will now go to polls on November 25. The counting will take place on 3 December.
Rajkummar's Navratri celebrations
Recently, Rajkummar Rao and his wife Patralekha made an appearance at the Rasrang Navratri festival, organised by the Shrikant Eknath Shinde Foundation in Dombivli. During the event, the couple sought the blessings of Goddess Durga and Rajkummar was also seen enthusiastically participating in the garba dance. He expressed his fondness for garba, mentioning that he had performed this traditional dance in two of his films, "Kai Po Che" and "Made in China." Rajkummar Rao took the opportunity to extend his Navratri greetings to everyone present at the festival.
Rajkummar's work front
Rajkummar Rao is all set to reunite with his "Roohi" co-star, Janhvi Kapoor, in an upcoming film where they will be portraying the roles of cricketers. However, as of now, the release date of this film has not been officially announced. Apart from this project, the actor is also slated to play the lead role in the inspirational biopic of industrialist Srikant Bolla, titled 'Sri'. The film features an ensemble cast, including Alaya F, Jyothika, and Sharad Kelkar.
Also, Rajkummar is set to share the screen with Tripti Dimri in a film titled 'Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video.' While details about the project remain relatively under wraps, it's described as a family entertainer.
