Judgementall Hai Kya Movie Review: Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao’s psychological thriller Judgementall Hai Kya directed by Prakash Kovelamudi revolves around a traumatized girl Bobby (Kangana) who gets into the character every time she dubs for a film. Her house has a wall with her photos in different looks- from cop to Kangana Ranaut’s Tanu Weds Manu avatar. Her imagination knows no bound. She is lonely, curious and always up to something. Things take a turn when Rajkummar Rao as Keshav comes to stay as tenant with his wife. A murder and two suspects accusing each other. Is Bobby's suspicion because of the character she is dubbing for at that very moment? Is Keshav being victimized just because of the voices inside Bobby’s mind? Throughout the film, the two continuously try to outwit each other with your sympathy constantly shifting from one character to another.

The story, screenplay and dialogues of Judgementall Hai Kya have been penned by Kanika Dhillon, who too appears in the film. The film is intriguing in the first half as you will be absorbing incidents going on the screen and trying to understand Bobby and Keshav. The story swiftly moves in the pre-interval leaving little scope for you to put your eyes off the screen. This is also because the transitions between the two scenes are written in such a way that it will evoke multiple emotions at the same. For instance, there is a scene transition between zooming car and something being fried on a pan. Also, the whodunit angle doesn’t let your attention waver despite the film being predictable. This is because Judgementall Hai Kya is not basically about who is the murderer but what led to the murder and thought-process of the criminal.

The entire film is laced with many such moments until the second half where the story starts moving at a relaxed pace. You experience a sudden shift in the way story is being told. In the second-half, the film moves to London with a mythological undertone. You get to see voices inside Bobby's mind who inspire or instigate her for all her weird actions.

In this dark film, there are a couple of characters which bring warmth and the ones who stand out are the director of Futuristic Ramayana played by Jimmy Shergill and the boy standing with placards on Mumbai streets. These are the ones who understand or at least try to understand and motivate Bobby, who is thought to be 'mental' by most of the people around her. Her on and off relationship with her boyfriend played by talented Hussain Dalal is also interesting. Hussain is impressive in the role of Bobby's boyfriend longing for a physical relationship with her. However, that boy with quirky quotes on his T-shirts is supportive as well. Bobby and his banter are enough to tickle your funnybones.

It is the treatment of Judgementall Hai Kya and finest actors of the industry that make the film stand out. Kovelamudi plays with lights, sounds, spooky cinematography and eerie background score to perfection. Besides the editing style, Pankaj Kumar's cinematography and Daniel B. George's background score collectively lift the story.

Judgementall Hai Kya rests mostly on Kangana's shoulders. The heavy lifting is done by the actress, aptly supported by Rajkummar Rao. Both the actors are in their never-seen-before avatars. Bobby, who doesn't need friends and is happy with a handful of people around her hates cockroaches. She makes origami boats and birds with frightening news reports about rape and domestic violence. Kangana sinks her teeth into the role of Bobby. She delivers even the most common of dialogues like 'sote nahi ho?' in such a subtle way that it evokes laughter in quite a serious situation. Rajkummar Rao, on the other hand, convincingly portrays the mysteriousness around his character Keshav. The man has two different faces and he convinces you with both. Though some of his activities do build distrust, you soon shun considering it to be the impact of Bobby's fixation with him. Keshav's character has multiple players and Rao has pulled the role impressively.

However, Judgementall Hai Kya is not flawless. The makers didn't put any effort in the climax as it seems to be done and dusted in haste. You saw the climax coming from far, still, you patiently waited for some shocking scenes but all in vain.
