Bareilly Ki Barfi starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Sanon made huge headlines for its power-packed cast and content-driven story. Directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, the movie is inspired by the English translation of a French book, titled Ingredients of Love and makes a smooth shift from Paris (in the novel) to Bareilly. The film follows the life of a small-town girl who lives her life on her own terms. Contrary to the prejudices about an 'Adarsh Naari', she smokes, drinks and comes home late every night-just like a boy; that's how she was brought up by her dad.

What is Bareilly Ki Barfi all about?
The romantic comedy film set in the small town of Bareilly showcases the Mishra family. Consisting of father (Pankaj Tripathi), mother (Seema Pahwa) and daughter Bitti (Kriti Sanon), they make a rather unusual and modern family. Bitti had been brought up in a liberal environment. She is bold and brash, which results in a couple of broken engagements. One fine day, she comes across a novel titled Bareilly Ki Barfi, the protagonist of which is exactly like her. This is where her life takes a complete different turn.
Awestruck by this discovery, Bitti returns back home and approaches the publisher of the book, Chirag Dubey (Ayushmann Khurrana) to get in touch with the author.Chirag who had ghostwritten Bareilly Ki Barfi in memory of his former lover Babli. As soon as Chirag sees Bitti, it is love at first sight for him.To impress her, he creates a fake a story involving his naïve friend, Pritam Vidrohi (Rajkummar Rao), whose name and photograph features as author of the book Bareilly Ki Barfi.
In the course of time, Bitti falls in love with the author and wants to meet him. Chirag, on the other hand, gets desperate to win Bitti’s love so he convinces or rather threatens Pritam to project himself as an embodiment of everything that Bitti hates. Will this spell magic or does it turn into a love triangle?
Thumbs up
Witten by Nitesh Tiwari Shreyas Jain, Bareilly Ki Barfi is clever and humours. The protagonists have different shades to portray. Ayushmann Khurrana may be a die-heart romantic but he is also selfish and a bully. Rajkummar Rao is an absolute delight as he switches from a meek guy to a rowdy dude back-and-forth with utmost ease. Kriti Sanon, who was last seen in Raabta opposite Sushant Singh Rajput comes as a surprise package in the film. The actress has acted her part well and, we can definitely say it is her best performance till now.
Thumbs down
The editing of Bareilly Ki Barfi could have been sharper as the movie seems to drag at times. The reason behind Ayushmann wanting to portray Rajkummar as an unsuitable candidate seems a bit flimsy, especially considering the fact that this is what a large part of the movie is based on.
To watch or not?
Bareilly Ki Barfi is purely a one time watch which has a few odd hilarious dialogues and some great performance. It is a light hearted film which is not as good as it promised to be.
