Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit have captivated generations with their panache and acting prowess. However, very few are aware of their rivalry in the 1990s. Filmmaker Dharmesh Darshan recently made some shocking revelations about the same.

In an interview with Lehren Retro, Dharmesh Darshan revealed that he wanted to cast Juhi Chawla for Raja Hindustani after working with her in Lootera. However, the actor did not like the genre. The filmmaker stated that he tried hard to convince Chawla and compared the 'simplicity' of Raja Hindustani with Sooraj Barjatya's blockbuster Hum Aapke Hain Koun! starring Madhuri Dixit as the female lead.

When Juhi Chawla said no to Raja Hindustani

Darshan further claimed that Juhi Chawla turned on him and said, "But you’re not Sooraj Barjatya." Replying to her, he said, "You’re not Madhuri Dixit." Following the spat, the actor rejected Raja Hindustani.

The filmmaker also revealed that Chawla called her the next day, apologised, and asked him to meet her again. He further said before meeting her, he went and narrated the film to Karisma Kapoor and Aamir Khan approved it. Dharmesh Dharshan also revealed that Aishwarya Rai and Pooja Bhatt were also considered for the role, however, they said no for unknown reasons.

Speaking about Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit's rivalry, the duo came back together in 2014 for Soumik Sen's 2014 action film Gulaab Gang.

About Raja Hindustani

Starring Aamir Khan and Karisma Kapoor, Raja Hindustani follows the love story of a small-town taxi driver who falls in love with a woman from an affluent family. The film is inspired by Shashi Kapoor's Jab Jab Phool Khile. Raja Hindustani emerged as the third most commercially successful Hindi film of the 90s leaving behind Madhuri Dixit's Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
