Shah Rukh Khan reportedly turned down Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh's roles in Padmaavat

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Padmaavat created a lot of controversies and remained the subject of prime time debate for a long time, despite that, it minted over Rs 300 crores at the box office. Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor impressed everyone with their remarkable performances but did you know that this wasn't the dream cast of the filmmaker. Bhansali wanted Shah Rukh Khan to play the calm and resilient Maharawal Ratan Singh, which was finally essayed by Shahid.

Yes, Padmaavat, which earned praises from all quarters for its magnificent scale was initially offered to Shah Rukh Khan. However, the superstar rejected the role as he thought the film's story basically revolves around Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji. When Bhansali got to know about SRK's thoughts, without wasting any time, he again approached the actor for Khilji's role. But the Shah Rukh refused it too as he was facing backlash for playing a grey shade character in Raees and he thought that playing a negative role can make things worse. The report claims that it was then the iconic role went to Ranveer Singh.

Had Shah Rukh been the part of Padmaavat, the film would have been completely different.

Shah Rukh was last seen in Aanand L Rai’s film Zero which also featured Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in lead roles. SRK's dwarf avatar was loved by everyone. Even Katrina and Anushka were showered with praises for beautifully portraying their parts.

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh, recently in an interview had reveal reasons behind not venturing into direction. He had said, “I’ve a little one right now. So, if I became a director, I would be locked in a room for two years, which is not a good thing to do at present. Sitting with AbRam and trying to write a story will be impossible. I don’t want to miss out on his growing up years.”

"I believe that if you are going to helm a film then you should be aware of the plot. You’ve to be able to say confidently ‘this is what my story is’. My thing is I’m assuming the possibilities. But sometimes, I haven’t tied up all the loose ends,'' he added.
