Barbados, Aug 18 : In a recent interview with TV host Oprah Winfrey, singer Rihanna said she lost her “best friend” following her traumatic break-up with Chris Brown.
The two split after Brown admitted to assaulting her at a pre-Grammy party in 2009. After being found guilty, Brown is now serving five years of probation for the felony attack.
During the interview, which features on “Oprah's Next Chapter” on OWN, Rihanna spoke with tears in her eyes about the impact the whole incident had on her life.
“Everything I knew switched, switched in a night and I couldn't control that so I had to deal with that and that is not easy for me to understand or interpret and it's not easy to interpret on
camera, not with the world watching. So it was hard for me to even pay attention to my mind and figure things out because it became a circus and I felt protective, like, I felt like the only
person to hate right now is him.”
But despite the assault the Barbados born star said she couldn't help but feel sorry for Brown.
“It was a weird confusing space to be in because as angry as I was, angry and hurt and betrayed, I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help and who is going to help him?
Nobody is going to say he needs help, everybody is going to say he's a monster without looking at the source. I was more concerned about him.”
