Hollywood star Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem have welcomed their first child. The Spanish actress, 36, gave birth to the baby boy last week.'Both parents and baby are doing great,' her representative said, reports Daily Mail.
The news was announced on Tuesday - the same day her husband found out he had been nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for Biutiful.A spokesman for the couple told Entertainment Tonight: 'Penelope and Javier welcomed their first son into their family last week.'
Spanish newspaper El Pais wrote that the baby was born in Los Angeles at the world-renowned Cedars Sinai hospital.The couple, who are notoriously secretive about their private lives, have not disclosed the child's name.
Earlier this month, Leonardo DiCaprio and Israeli model Bar Refaeli attended the couple's baby shower at their Los Angeles mansion.When Bardem, 41, was asked about the thought of starting a family during an interview in Rome in September, he said: 'It is true. I am very happy.'
When he was asked if he and fellow Oscar winner Penelope had decided on a name for the baby, he replied: 'No, not yet.'Penelope married fellow Spaniard Javier at a low-key ceremony in the Caribbean in July with only a few relatives present.
The pair started dating in 2007 after starring together in the Woody Allen movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona.The couple have known one another for 19 years after meeting on the set of Penelope's debut film, the Spanish comedy drama Jamon Jamon, when the actress was 18.
Despite their low-key relationship, Bardem paid a public tribute to his wife when he accepted Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival.After accepting the trophy, he told the audience: 'I share this joy with my friend, my companion, my love: Penelope: I owe you a lot and I love you so much.'
