London, Dec 22: British medieval fantasy drama ‘Merlin' has a big surprise in store for its fans and its cast.
Actor Colin Morgan, who plays the title character in the series, says that for the first time in the history of the show, the cast have no idea what is to come in the fifth season, except that they're going to start working on it in the spring.
“We only get the episodes, three episodes at a time, so starting last series 4, I only knew episodes 1, 2 and 3 when we started so and then when we're near the end of filming those we get 4, 5 and 6 so that's how it works,” he says.
“We know nothing about series 5 in terms of storylines which is, we've never gone into another series without knowing what was in store.”
The story follows the ascent of the young wizard Merlin to the Camelot court presided by King Uther, the father of Prince Arthur. Merlin has to navigate his way around a ban on the use of magic in Camelot while learning to control his growing powers and developing a friendship with Arthur.
The fourth season sees a conflict between Merlin and Arthur on one side and the King's ward Morgana - another powerful witch with a chip on her shoulder against the kingdom and its rulers - on the other side.
The actor reveals that the fourth season finale is going to keep the fans guessing as the enemies close in from all sides.
“It is a semi cliff-hanger, but it's so intriguing, I don't know, I don't quite know how they're going to go with the next series, but I'm intrigued to find out how and I think that's a really intelligent, really intriguing ending I think people will be very pleased with.”
