Madonna and her daughter Lourdes walked the pink carpet in front of Macy's flagship store in downtown Manhattan Wednesday (Sept 22) for the official launch of the new 'Material Girl' line, which she designed with her daughter Lourdes.
The 'Material Girl' collection, described as an "affordable juniors clothing line," is only available at Macy's department stores. When asked what the collection represents, the original Material Girl said, "Independence, freedom; sense of humor."
Lourdes then spelled out who she thinks this collection is for. "I think it's just like a girl, who's very strong-willed and has great style and just wants to be somebody and just wants to be like the best that she possibly can and I think that's a Material Girl; when you have your own style and just have fun."
When asked about collaborating with her teenage daughter, Madonna said Lourdes called the shots. "She (Lourdes) makes most of the decisions."
Not that the entertainer has suddenly toned down her opinions. "If I really don't like something I could be quite loud and opinionated about it but for the most part I like everything she does."
Lourdes said working with her mom has its ups and downs. "Definitely it's fun because she has such great style and I really like to look up to her style and I look up to like what she's done and everything but also there are some points when we really clash in our decision making."
That prompted Madonna to joke, "That's when I go, 'It's time to do your homework."
Also walking Macy's pink carpet at New York City's Herald Square was Taylor Momsen, the actress and recording artist Madonna and Lourdes selected as the face of the 'Material Girl' collection.
Momsen said working with Madonna and her daughter has been "amazing." "Lola (Lourdes) was such a pleasure to work with. She's such a talented young lady and I mean so fashionable and so with it and so professional, like way beyond her years.
And Madonna's Madonna. It was - she's very down to earth and a very cool lady." The 'Material Girl' line includes apparel, footwear and accessories such as handbags and jewelry. AP
