With its drugs scandals, break-ups, engagements and more wild parties than anyone – particularly those involved – can remember, the past decade has certainly been turbulent for Kate Moss.

Yet throughout the turmoil the supermodel has maintained her ‘tousled sexiness' – and yesterday she was named the best-dressed woman of the past ten years.

In the first list of its kind compiled by Vogue, Miss Moss was judged to have had more influence than any other model or celebrity on the way other women dress.

Stylish: The supermodel was praised for her unique sense of style and fashion bravery

In a supplement, the magazine has named 11 of the world's most sartorially stylish celebrities.

And it has given them each a title, representing glamour to urban style and raw individuality.

But is Miss Moss, 36, who has clearly emerged as the most important.

Vogue style director Alexandra Kotur said: 'At every moment Kate Moss has looked chic and cool.

'We chose people who were thinking out of the box, women who look as if they're wearing what they really wanted to wear.

‘The whole Vogue editorial team and fashion staff brainstormed to come up with the list.

‘Our parameters were to highlight from the year, and the overarching theme that we observed was to recognise an emphasis on the individual.'

Although the list did not rank the women in league table, Miss Moss clearly emerged as the most important dresser for the magazine's editors.

Of Moss Ms Kotur said: ‘No one has had more influence for the past decade on the way women have dressed than Kate Moss.'

Elsewhere Lady Gaga was named as most ‘visionary' for her astonishing array of bizarre outfits, whilst First Lady Michelle Obama was named the most independent.

‘Lady Gaga speaks for herself - talk about being an individual,' said Ms Kotur.

‘She's that in a heightened sense. She doesn't step out the door unless she's in a whole look that's very well thought out and has a purpose.

‘When she met The Queen she wore an outfit that referred back to Elizabeth I. There's thought that's put into everything. She really, truly is the individual.'

Mrs Obama was selected because there is ‘no better example of fashion democracy', it says in Vogue.

‘What she has done is so wonderful in that there's a spotlight on her and she's opened up the vocabulary...

‘...She mixes high and low, she mixes J Crew with Gaultier. It's that pairing of something not so expensive with something that's a little higher end that's worth celebrating.'

Carey Mulligan won Vogue's best ‘Free spirit' for her carefree and unique style whilst Gossip Girl Blake Lively was named best ‘bombshell'.

British TV presenter and model Alexa Chung won the ‘Street cool' award for her trend-setting mix of styles.

Sex And The City star Sarah Jessica Parker was named ‘Haute Bohemian' for her mixture of boho and urban chic.

Vogue says: ‘She's the one who loves to dress up and you know that wherever she goes, she's going to be dressed up to the nines.

‘She loves to really wear it all. She really celebrates fashion; she clearly loves it. She's not afraid to get dressed up.

'Whether she's walking her child to school or walking the red carpet, she genuinely loves fashion and celebrates it.'
