Los Angeles: A new app on iPhone gives movie buffs a chance to take an interactive tour of the Hollywood Walk of Fame -- the famed mile-long street lined with permanent stars as tributes to the world's biggest celebrities.
The free app, currently available on iTunes, gives users directions to all 2,530 stars along the route, which stretches for 15 blocks along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street here.
Created by MediaMine, the app enables visitors to get detailed information about each person, including biographies, photographs and even video clips, reports dailymail.co.uk.
"We believe this is the future of tourism -- bringing together the historical archives of a location and marrying it to experiential technology that transforms a passive journey into an interactive experience," said Barry Snyder, co-founder and president of MediaMine.
"Our technology allows us to take legacy content and present it in a fun, entertaining way, while preserving the cultural heritage of a destination," he added.
The stars are permanent public monuments to achievement in the entertainment industry, bearing the names of a mix of actors, musicians, directors, producers, musical and theatrical groups, and fictional characters.
These attract a lot of interest from locals as well as tourists, who, through the app, will be able to access information on each celebrity, provided via the archives of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
Users can also access video clips of the official star induction ceremony for each celebrity featured in the Walk of Fame, which was created in 1958.
The app will eventually be translated into various languages and will also be available as an Android version later this year.
