Golden Globe nominations for TV: 'Fargo', 'True Detective' lead

Los Angeles: "Fargo", a dark comedy-crime drama show inspired by an eponymous 1996 film, has bagged five nominations among the 11 categories of TV entertainers for the 72nd Golden Globe awards, to be held early

Los Angeles: "Fargo", a dark comedy-crime drama show inspired by an eponymous 1996 film, has bagged five nominations among the 11 categories of TV entertainers for the 72nd Golden Globe awards, to be held early next year. "True Detective" follows behind with four nominations.

The nominations were announced Thursday, and the winners for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association event will be declared Jan 11, 2015.

The best television series - drama category has “The Affair”, “Downton Abbey”, “Game of Thrones”, “The Good Wife” and “House of Cards” in contention, while "Fargo", "The Missing", "The Normal Heart", "Olive Kitteridge" and "True Detective" are vying for a trophy in the best mini-series or motion picture made for television category.

In the best performance by an actor in a television series - drama bracket, Clive Owen ("The Knick"), Liev Schreiber ("Ray Donovan"), Kevin Spacey ("House Of Cards"), James Spader ("The Blacklist") and Dominic West ("The Affair") will have a tough fight.

Among the actresses competing in the same category are Claire Danes ("Homeland"), Viola Davis ("How To Get Away With Murder"), Julianna Marhulies ("The Good Wife"), Ruth Wilson ("The Affair") and Robin Wright ("House Of Cards").

“Girls”, “Jane the Virgin”, “Orange Is the New Black”, “Silicon Valley” and “Transparent” will be competing in the best television series - comedy or musical category.

The nominations for the best performance by an actress in a television series - comedy or musical are Lena Dunham ("Girls"), Edie Falco ("Nurse Jackie"), Julia Louis ("Veep"), Gina Rodriguez ("Jane The Virgin") and Taylor Schilling ("Orange Is The New Black").

In the best performance by an actor in a television series - comedy or musical category Louis C.K. ("Louie"), Don Cheadle (“House of Lies”), Ricky Gervais (“Derek”), William H. Macy (“Shameless”) and Jeffrey Tambor (“Transparent”), have been nominated.

In the race for an award in the best performance by an actress in a mini-series or motion picture made for television category are Maggie Gyllenhaal ("The Honorable Woman"), Jessica Lange ("American Horror Story: Freak Show"), Frances McDormand ("Olive Kitteridge"), Frances O'Connor ("The Missing") and Allison Tolman ("Fargo").

For best performance by an actor in a mini-series or motion picture made for television, Martin Freeman ("Fargo"), Woody Harrelson ("True Detective"), Matthew McConaughey ("True Detective"), Mark Ruffalo ("The Normal Heart") and Billy Bob Thornton ("Fargo") have been nominated.

The nominees for best performance by an actress in a supporting role in a series, mini-series or motion picture made for television include Uzo Aduba (“Orange is the New Black”), Kathy Bates (“American Horror Story”), Joanne Froggatt (“Downton Abbey”), Allison Janney ("Mom") and Michelle Monaghan ("True Detective").

The actors contending in the same category are Matt Bomer ("The Normal Heart"), Alan Cumming ("The Good Wife"), Colin Hanks ("Fargo"), Bill Murray ("Olive Kitteridge") and Jon Voight ("Ray Donovan").
