New Delhi, Feb 15 : In a major disappointment for Bryan Adams' fans, the Canadian rock star's much-awaited concert in Delhi has been put off after police denied permission for it on security grounds.
The sold-out concert, which was scheduled for this evening, could not go ahead because the Delhi police said the location for the show in the NSIC exhibition grounds in Okhla industrial area of south east Delhi was not suitable for it.
"As per instructions we have received from the organisers, the Bryan Adams concert in Delhi has been postponed," the official ticketing partner for the event KyaZoonga said on its website. It said the concert will be rescheduled and the details of the new venue, date and time will be available later this evening.
The organisers could not be reached for comment. The 52-year-old star, who has sold nearly 70 million albums and 30 million singles worldwide, has already performed
in Bangalore and Mumbai, and is also scheduled to hold a concert in Hyderabad tomorrow.
Police, however, was not satisfied with the arrangements in Delhi and did not give a green light for the show. "We have denied permission for the concert because of
security concerns. The place chosen to organise the concert is not suitable for this kind of a programme," a senior police official said.
According to the official, the objection was mainly due to the organisers selling more tickets than the capacity of the ground which can cater to only 6,000 people at a time.
"They have issued VIP and complimentary passes also. There were no traffic plan despite the fact that the show was to be held on a working day," the official said.
The official said police had informed the organizers about the denial of permission on February 10 itself.
Kyazoonga has asked people who had booked tickets online and through retail outlets, "please DO NOT go to the NSIC venue to pick up your tickets". It also assured that in case the customers choose not to attend the rescheduled concert, their tickets will be refunded. It also said that besides the rescheduled dates, the details of refunds and ticket exchanges will also be announced.
