Former actress Brigitte Bardot, known for her breathtaking looks and was courted by some of the world's most desirable men, has revealed in an interview that she has been on the brink of suicide on a number of occasions.
"You can be barefoot and have worries. I have really been on the verge of suicide several times - it's a miracle that I am still alive," the Daily Mail quoted Bardot as telling France magazine.
Bardot, now 75, shocked fans in 1973 when she retired to become an animal rights activist. And she is no less controversial these days. In fact, age has perhaps made her more so.
"I am shocking, impertinent and insolent - that's how it is," she said.
"I never regret anything but I am greatly misunderstood by politically correct idiots. Politics disgusts me," she said.
She added, "My parents gave me a strict upbringing, which at times has caused me to suffer distress but today I am grateful to them for it."
