The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Culture recently released a list of 100 top American movies of all times.
Though this sounded bizarre to many, as first of all, a British Corporation taking decisions about the best films of American culture did not make sense and secondly, a lot of award-winning American films like ‘Titanic' did not secure any place in the list.
However, BBC said that it had polled 62 international film critics from across the globe, from the countries like UK, Europe, Australia, India, Middle East and USA to get a list deduced of 100 best films.
The agency told that the critics, whom it called upon, ranged from varied walks of life from film reviewers at newspapers and magazines to broadcasters and writers.
The participation of the film in the deduction of the list was based neither on the fact that it was made in US, nor on the basis that it was made by an American, rather BBC considered only those films which were funded by a US source.
Considering this, around 32 films in the list were by the film-makers who were not born in US.
Critics who participated in the activity were asked to submit a list of 10 such American films, which they considered best of all times and accordingly their pick for the greatest film received 10 point and their last pick received 1 point.
They were encouraged to submit 10 films they feel, on the emotional level, are the best in American cinema – “not necessarily the most important, just the best”.
