Los Angeles: Filmmaker Ridley Scott has confirmed that his next project after "The Martian" will be an untitled Prometheus sequel, with filming set to begin early next year.
He also shared the connection between the "Prometheus" sequel and his "Aliens" franchise, while also indicating that there might be more than one "Prometheus" sequels.
Scott said that he's using "Prometheus" to explain things in "Aliens", so that both of them were connected, reports aceshowbiz.com.
"The whole point is to explain the 'Alien' franchise and how and why the creation of the aliens. I always saw the Alien as a type of biological warfare. For me, the original spaceship that I call the croissant, a warship that contains these biomechanoids creatures, which is all about destruction,” Scott told German site FilmFutter.
"Prometheus" was originally planned as a one-shot prequel to "Alien", but Scott later claimed that "Prometheus" wasn't a direct prequel to the classic film. Since the first film didn't end up like the initial plan, Scott was asked whether "Prometheus 2" would be the one directly connected to "Alien".
"Yes. But it won't be in the next one," he answered.
Scott hinted that one movie might not be enough to answer some questions left in the first movie, so he would probably connect "Prometheus" to his 1979 film in the third or fourth film. "It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the 'Alien' franchise," he said.
