LOS ANGELES: Male film fans have come clean about the big-screen tear-jerkers that left them blubbing like babies.
And the results make interesting, and occasionally baffling, reading.
It may be no surprise to see malebonding prison epic The Shawshank Redemption in the list of 20 films compiled by a BBC Magazine.
But the fact that Hobbit-packed Middle-earth epic The Return Of The King topped the lamenting list could raise a few eyebrows.
‘I've seen it loads of times but, even as a man in my 30s, it still manages to get me going every single time,' said Andy Bishop, of Bromley in Kent.
Perhaps he was scared the interminable film would never end.
And while we all loved The Italian Job, how many of you blubbed during it? Well, Ben Halstead, of Leeds, did.
‘The bit where the Mafia smash Michael Caine's Aston Martin and the two E-Types had me crying like a baby,' he said.
Other choices include Man On Fire, in which Denzel Washington ‘tugs at the heart strings' while slaughtering bad guys in Mexico, and rags to riches boxing tale Rocky.
Cute animals also prompted floods from male viewers, with Babe and Marley And Me on the list.
The poll followed the release of Toy Story 3, which has had many male film-goers sobbing silently behind their 3D glasses.
