Though Priyanka Chopra has proved herself as in International icon but her choice of Hollywood debut doesn’t seem to be that impressive. Her first Hollywood venture with Dwayne Johnson, Baywatch received nasty reviews from some of the renowned Hollywood critics. Some even went to the extent of saying that the movie clearly lacked substance and even failed to prompt a laughter with its cliched jokes. It became one of the lowest ever Hollywood movie in US.
Now after the lukewarm response from the movie critics, Baywatch doomed on box-office as well. The movie competed with the fifth series of Pirates of the Caribbean, and we have a clear winner here, needless to mention. According to Deadline reports, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (Salazar’s Revenge in India) bagged an estimate $24-$26 million on Friday, while Baywatch managed to rake in only $6-$7 million on its debut.
The beachy-drama which is a reboot of the hit ‘90s TV show starring Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhof is slated to release in India on 2nd June so as to avoid competition. The total budget of the film was $69 million while the Johnny Depp-starrer Pirates of Caribbean was made with a whopping budget of $230 million.
The opening numbers of Baywatch are sluggish and is expected to have lukewarm reactions in the coming week as well. “Baywatch is stuck in the sand, playing slow in its first two nights of evening play so grosses might even dip lower. Will see how it plays tonight but so far it’s not seeing any big audience play on that rating,”, the reports say mentioning that the film has an R-rating which already limits the audience who’re below 17.
The film has been already tormented by the critical remarks by the reviews and it currently stands still at 38% on Rotten Tomatoes. Amidst these unimpressive box office numbers, surprisingly the filmmakers are planning to prepare a sequel. The film producer Beau Flynn told Variety that they have an amazing story on their mind to make the sequel.
