Our Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra was busy promoting her first Hollywood movie ‘Baywatch’ with utmost zeal and tactics. But surprisingly, what we have in front of us are not-so-encouraging, tepid reviews. The ratings on 'Rotten Tomatoes' would take many Indian Hollywood buffs at surprise.
Although, in India, we have to wait for the flick to release, but the critics worldwide have slammed the movie is every way possible. The unimpressive ratings of the film signifies that nobody harbors even a slightest inclination to watch this Hollywood adaptation of a TV show that lasted through the entirety of 1990s’. Nasty reviews by the critics might scare the Indian audience and discourage them to book their tickets despite the presence of Priyanka Chopra and her oomph factor.
Most of the critics criticized the movie for over-portrayal of red swimsuit clad playmates running along the sandy coast of the beaches, and perhaps bad acting. According to the movie monks, ‘Baywatch’ is all about a fantasy of American lifestyle that involves sun, bikinis, beaches and the red floaties they carry around while running. Nothing realistic and impactful is to be seen in the entire span of 116 minutes. When you think about ‘Baywatch’ can you imagine anything else than the entire star cast running semi-naked on the beach while jiggling their beach-body flesh? Nobody can.
43 reviews are in on ‘Rotten Tomatoes’ and we’re still struggling to find out few positive ones. Currently, the movie has an extremely bombastic rating of 14%, which shows the terrible crash of the movie. This Priyanka Chopra starrer film is one of the lowest rated film in Hollywood on the US box office right now.
Steve Rose from ‘The Guardian’ says “alpha-male chest-off is not worth the Hasselhoff”. The critic slams the filmmaker for reducing the female cast of the film only to be a mere love interests of the swimsuit models. He even goes on saying that the Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra is the underused villain of the piece, who was contractually obliged to show as much flesh as possible.
Major critics were disappointed of Ms. Chopra for being passive throughout the course of movie with a role not justifying her acting prowess. The script offered nothing for her to work with. Till the end of the movie, Priyanka gets only one big scene to impress the audience, at which, according to the critics, she isn’t quite successful.
“Chopra has fun as the baddie, but she stays in the background until the end of the movie and really only gets one big scene at the end of the picture.”, Scott Mendelson from Forbes says.
The only ‘good’ review we could find among the long queue of rotten tomatoes is by Matt Goldberg from ‘Collider’. He writes:
If there's one good thing that can come from the wreckage of this movie, it's for Chopra's career in Hollywood films to take off.
It is evident that Priyanka Chopra should start making some judicious decisions while picking up a Hollywood project for herself. Going by the critics, the movie is blandly a ‘Shipwreck’.
‘Baywatch’ is slated to release in India on June 2. Let’s see if the flick manages to impress the Indian audience despite such scary and nauseous reviews.
