New Delhi: The upcoming sci-fi thriller ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ will show everything from Las Vegas to the Burj Khalifa being destroyed to the ground. However, India and its landmarks will be left alone by an unprecedented alien attack in this mega blockbuster. The reason being that the Hollywood filmmakers don’t want to the part of any unnecessary debate and censorship.
According to a Mumbai Mirror report, a source from producers of 20th Century Fox said that the makers have decided to avoid Indian monuments because Indians, apparently, “are too touchy”.
“Keeping the sensitivities of all the religious groups and other activists in mind, the makers were asked to not shoot in India or portray any prominent monuments being damaged," the source said.
Rolland Emmerich’s 1996 original Independence Day went on to become a became a huge success and after 20 years he is ready to hit back with this bigger and stronger sequel.
In this sequel, London and Singapore have been reduced to rubble, the Petronas towers are destroyed and the Burj Khalifa has collapsed. Parisians are worried and a bedouin family in Marrakesh has gathered around a radio, listening intently to the arrival and departure of spaceships, as reported by Mumbai Mirror.
A spokesperson of the company's Indian subsidiary, Fox Star Studios, confirmed that this was an internal decision that was agreed upon owing to several policy makers that reject such requests.
"There was also a request to only represent India on one of the film's posters, by showing an attack on the Taj Mahal. But this too was rejected, “reports said quoting the spokesperson.
The sequel replaces Will Smith with Liam Hemsworth as the lead in the movie.
‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ is going to hit screens across the country on June 24.
In August last year, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC, commonly referred to as the Censor Board) had asked the makers of Pixels to remove a scene which shows the Taj Mahal being destroyed.
