The air of the world is 70% GoT right now. The Game of Thrones phenomenon has taken over the world with full momentum owing to the popularity of the show. Not only the online view time, but there’s something else that has seen a spike with the launch of GoT season 7 and it’s the intensity of tourists at Games of Thrones themed destinations. According to a report, due to the popularity of the show, themed tours which showcase the most famous filming locations of the sitcom have seen an upsurge during the recent times. “They offer a new and entertaining way to discover popular destinations, with the Game of Thrones Walking Tour of Dubrovnik in Croatia as the most booked tour to date,”, says a report by Trip Advisor recently.

“Pop culture and television can have a powerful influence on travel and our data reveals that the ‘Game of Thrones’ phenomenon has driven a remarkable increase in tourism to numerous destinations in Europe,” TripAdvisor’s senior director of communications Brooke Ferencsik said. The increase in traffic has been calculated based on the number of unique sessions on Trip Advisor sites from September 2012 to June 2017.
After the show being filmed, most of the destinations have seen an upsurge in number of tourists, proving that TV tourism is the new trend among youth. One in five travellers is choosing a destination based on what they saw on a TV show, the report further says. Spain and Iceland experienced a striking increase in the traffic from international markets including US, UK, Germany and Canada.

Trip Advisor traveller data also confirmed peaks in the interests from travellers in April and July 2016, when the production company began revealing chunks about new filming locations. The destinations which have generated much buzz in Spain include Bermeo (109 per cent), Santiponce (99 per cent) and Caceres (56 per cent). The report has revealed following data.
