World Menstrual Day: After PadMan, Twinkle Khanna to support short film on menstruation called First Period
After bringing the subject of menstruation to the table with her first production PadMan, Twinkle Khanna is all set to back another film on menstruation called First Period. It is a short film which will talk about the subject from a boy’s point of view in a world where no woman exists.
Written and directed by Zubaan(2016) fame director Mozez Khan, the short film will turn the tables because a boy will talk about his first period. On World Menstrual Day today, Twinkle Khanna will launch the short film across her social media platforms.
Talking about the film to DNA Mozez revealed, “When I was approached by Dasra, the NGO behind the film alongside The Gates Foundation, their brief was they wanted men to be involved in the conversation about menstrual hygiene. So, we wrote a script where we showed everything from a man’s point of view and how in that world it’s all perfect and empowering. It raises the question why can’t this happen in a woman’s world and forces you to neutralize gender disparity. First Period is another voice in that conversation.”
Having made her mark with Akshay Kumar and Sonam Kapoor starrer PadMan, the director decided to take Twinkle’s feedback on his film which brought her on board. When Mozez showed it to Twinkle, she was much impressed with it. He says, “She felt the film made a solid and forceful point and she offered her support immediately. I remain indebted to her.”
