Undoubtedly, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt are one of the most adorable and blockbusters pairs of the industry. The two not only depict terrific chemistry onscreen but share a nice bond off-screen as well. While the two have given us blockbuster movies, they have always been appreciative of each other’s work. Even so that Varun asked Alia to hike her fees because she is such a great actress.
In an interview to Film Companion, Varun said: “Why has it taken the trade and the industry as a whole until a Raazi to realize that Alia Bhatt is a big star. Be it Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and even 2 States, were all hits and Alia Bhatt was just as responsible for its success as I was or Arjun was (Arjun Kapoor was the male lead in 2 States).”
In fact, it was Varun who made Alia realize that she was demanding less money than she deserved, given her status as an actor-star. He said: “I would always tell Alia, what are you doing? You take very little money. Are you stupid? Increase your price.”
The pay gap has always been a topic of discussion in the industry. Earlier, actresses like Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vidya Balan, Kangana Ranaut, Anushka Sharma, Sonakshi Sinha and Katrina Kaif also poured their heart out about the huge gap between what the leading male stars are paid and what female leads get. The issue also reached Hollywood when Jennifer Lawrence, Patricia Arquette, Emma Stone, and Meryl Streep raised their voice against it.
On the related note, Alia Bhatt has completed the shooting schedule of Brahmastra in Bulgaria nd is back in the bay. After completing Brahmastra, she will start shooting for Kalanka nd Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s comedy-drama. On the other hand, Varun Dhawan is all geared up for Sui Dhaaga: Made In India which is scheduled for 28th September release.
