The nation today woke up to the shocking news of Sridevi’s untimely demise. While the death news was confirmed by her brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor, the exact details of the unfortunate incident were unknown until now. The veteran actress, who breather her last at the age of 54, suffered a cardiac arrest. On Saturday night (UAE local time), Sridevi reportedly had a fainting spell in her bathroom. Sridevi fell in the bathroom of her room in Dubai's Emirates Tower hotel at around 11.30 pm (local time. The Sadma actress was immediately rushed to Rashid Hospital in Dubai.
According to sources in Consulate General of India in the UAE, Sridevi was declared dead by the doctor upon arrival in the hospital. "Her mortal remains were handed over to the forensic department," the source added.
Meanwhile, in Mumbai a huge crowd has gathered outside the actress’s house in Andheri. Two police vans have been stationed and the security, too, has been beefed up to avoid any commotion outside her residence.
According to an Airports Authority of India source, a private jet is being flown to Dubai to carry the late actor's mortal remains.
The aircraft which will bring Sridevi's body is likely to depart from Mumbai around 1 pm and will arrive in Dubai at 4 pm. It is expected to reach Mumbai around 8 pm.
Sridevi was born in the year 1963 to Ayyapan Yanger and Rajeswari Yanger, and was named Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan. Her father was a lawyer. She, a Padma Shri awardee in 2013, began her career at the tender age of four in Thirumugham’s devotional film, Thunaivan (1969). She was a child artiste in the film, Julie (1975). With Solva Saavan, Sridevi made her foray into Bollywood as the lead actor in 1979.
