Born in the year 1992, legendary actor Amrish Lal Puri was an important figure for Hindi cinema. An Indian actor who bagged himself innumerable awards for being the best villain started his career with stage plays. He worked with notable playwrights of the time, such as Satyadev Dubey and Girish Karnad.
Coming to his popularity among Indian audiences, the actor has played iconic villainous roles including Mogambo in M.r India, Raja Saab in Koyla, Chuniya in Saudagar, Thakral in Meri Jung and believe us -the list is endless. Puri reigned supreme in villainous roles in the 1980s and 1990s. In those decades, there was hardly any Bollywood film that did not feature Puri as a villain. His dominating screen presence and baritone voice made him stand out amongst the other villains of the day. While Amrish Puri was a notable actor for performing wicked roles, he has successfully contributed to comedy films like Hulchul, Chachi 420, Itihaas, Gardish, Jhooth Bole Kauwa Kaate.
Filmfare(s) awardee Puri went on to work in Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Punjabi, Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil films. His fan following wasn't limited to Indian audiences but the actor made a mark in the international film industry as well. The actor is best known as Khan in Richard Attenborough's Gandhi in 1982 and as Mola Ram in Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1994. In total, Amrish Puri acted in more than 400 films between 1967 and 2005.
