Actress-producer Madhuri Dixit and her husband Shriram Nene adopted a dog who was rescued by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India. The actress has named the puppy Carmelo Nene. The animal was adopted by Madhuri's family on March 17, which was also her son Arin’s birthday. The Bollywood star recently took to her social media account and shared photos of herself and her family, along with little Carmelo.
Madhuri captioned the photos, “The smiles on our faces show how this little pup stole our hearts! Welcome to the family Carmelo Nene I urge all animal lovers to adopt pets & see how they fill your life with joy. @petaindia”.
"Abandoning a companion dog or cat is the cruellest thing to do. I'm happy we will be able to give this pup a new lease of life," Madhuri said in a statement.
This is not the first pet Madhuri has adopted. She adopted a 5-year-old Riya but she passed away last year due to cancer. Madhuri had penned an emotional post at that time for Riya. She wrote: “My dearest Riya, as we said Goodbye to you this week, it brings back so many memories of the first day when we rescued you and brought you home. You were skinny and your hair was falling out but the spark in your eyes and innocence on your face made me fall in love with you instantly. Now, 7 years later all I can remember is your tiny little paws, mischievous eyes and how you filled our lives with so much joy. Thank you for your unconditional love. I pray that you are happy and in peace now."
On work front, Madhuri is awaiting the release of multi-starrer Kalank, which has Sanjay Dutt, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapu in pivotal roles. Her last release Total Dhamaal is a box office success crossing Rs 150 crore mark. The film also stars Ajay Devgn , Anil Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh.
