Singer Angarag Papon Mahanta aka Papon has landed in legal trouble for ‘kissing’ a young girl. The girl is reportedly a contestant in the reality show The Voice of India Kids 2. A Supreme Court lawyer has accusing the singer of sexually assaulting a minor girl and has moved the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Advoacte Runa Bhuyan has sent a request to the child rights body to initiate an inquiry against the musician stating that minor girls are unsafe while participating in such reality TV shows.
It so happened that the Bulleya fame singer shared a video on his Facebook page. In the video, Papon who is one of the judges in the singing reality show can be seen enjoying himself with the other judges Himesh Reshammiya, Shaan, and Palak Muchhal. The clip also shows Papon affectionately kissing a minor contestant.
“I am shocked to see the behaviour of the said singer Angarag Papon Mahanta towards a minor girl where he is seen applying colors on a minor girl and inappropriately kissing the said girl. On seeing the video, I am seriously concerned regarding the safety and security of minor girls participating in reality shows across India”, the lawyer was quoted as saying in her complaint.
“Surprisingly, though there are number of minor girls present inside the van, not a single female member of the crew is seen to be present. I am shocked to see the behavior of Papon towards the minor girl where he is seen to be applying colours on a minor girl and inappropriately kissing the said girl. I am concerned regarding the safety and security of minor girls participating in reality shows across India,” the lawyer Runa Bhuyan was quoted as saying to a news channel.
Papon recently performed some of his favourite ghazals for Royal Stag Barrel Select MTV Unplugged. He said that he is trying to bring back the glory of ghazals among young listeners. If presented in a contemporary way, the youth is ready to enjoy the genre, the singer added.
There is no official statement from Papon so far on the allegations.
