Maqbool
Based on Shakespeare's King Duncan, Maqbool was an adaptation by Bollywood filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj that showed Pankaj Kapoor as Jahangir Khan (alias Abba Ji). The actor played a powerful underworld don in the film and his performance was proof enough that he can take an any challenge and role given to him.
Dharm
Another power-packed performance by Pankaj Kapoor in Dharm in which he played the role of a high priest. The movie dealt with communal harmony and showed when the priest's wife brings home an orphan boy, her husband is against it. Over time, he develops a connection with him, but is shocked when he finds out the boy's religion.
The Blue Umbrella
The Blue Umbrella was another interesting tale that marked Pankaj Kapoor’s name in golden words. Based on Ruskin Bond’s short story, Vishal Bharadwaj adapted it into a film which went on to become a classic. In the film, Pankaj Kapoor plays the role of a shopkeeper who falls in love with a blue umbrella owned by a little girl and wants to possess it. To do so, he steals it! The actor’s performance was so powerful that it garnered universal acclaim as well.
Ek Doctor Ki Maut
It is said that Pankaj Kapoor’s strongest performance in the early part of his career came from his lead role of struggling scientist in the film Ek Doctor Ki Maut in 1991. The actor even bagged the 1991 National Film Award – Special Jury Award for his terrific performance. The film went on to woo the critics and the audience for a long time.
Dus
