Karni Sena threatens to gouge Javed Akhtar’s eyes out post his ghoonghat remarks
Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar has received threatening from the organization called Karni Sena after he asked the government to ban ghoonghat alongside the ban on burkha. The Karni Sena aren’t impressed with Akhtar’s comments regarding the whole burkha ban controversy and have asked the lyricist to apologize.
Jivan Singh Solanki, Karni Sena Maharashtra wing president, told TOI, "We have asked Akhtar to render an apology within three days or face the consequences. In a video recording sent to the leading daily, Solanki says, "We will gouge out your eyes and pull out your tongue if you don't apologise. We will enter your house and beat you." He has also been quoted as saying, "The burqa is associated with terrorism and (is a question of) national security. We have asked Akhtar to render an apology within three days or face the consequences."
According to Times of India Javed Akhtar had said that he is not against banning burkha but feels that ghoonghat should also be taken into consideration with such law is getting implemented. He said, "Covering face may be a problem when it comes to security. If burqa is banned then, ghoonghat too should be taken into account. What is the need of burqa or ghunghat?"
However, Akhtar's statement attracted much fury from several quarters and he took to Twitter to clarify his stance. He wrote, "Some people are trying to distort my statement . I have said that may be in Sri Lanka it is done for security reasons but actually it is required for women empowerment . covering the face should be stopped whether naqab or ghoonghat."
This isn't the first time Karni Sena has issued threats to prominent personalities. The fringe outfit also caused problems in the release of Bollywood films like Deepika Padukone starrer Padmaavat and Kangana Ranaut starrer Manikarnika.
