Shah Rukh Khan, who will be visiting Bhubaneswar next week for the inauguration of 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup has been threatened by a local outfit. The faction which goes by the name of Kalinga Sena has demanded an apology from Khan for 'insulting' Odisha in 2001 film Asoka. The chief of the outfit, Hemant Rath has also filed a complaint against Khan alleging that the superstar has hurt the sentiments of Odia people.

The complaint further alleges that Khan has dishonoured Odisha's culture by portraying the Kalinga war in a wrong manner. The press statement issued by the group stated: ''We have made preparation to throw ink on the actor's face and show him black flag at any place from the airport to the stadium. Our activists will remain present all along the road where Khan is likely to visit''. On November 11, Kalinga Sena burnt SRK's effigy and held a rally to mark their protest.

Asoka, which released 17 years ago faced wrath on its release. The movie which tanked at the box office could not stay in theatres of Odisha for more than a week.

Kalinga war was fought in 265 BC between Emperor Ashoka and the state of Kalinga. Ashoka won the battle, which is considered one of the bloodiest wars of the history. It is the bloodshed of this battle which prompted Asoka to embrace Buddhism.

On a related note, Shah Rukh Khan will next be seen in Zero directed by Aanand L Rai.
