Janmashtami marks the birth anniversary of one of the most worshiped Hindu gods – Lord Krishna. Celebrated with great fervour in India and abroad, it is observed on the eighth day of the month of Bhadra, as per the Hindu Calendar. On the occasion of Janmashtami 2018 on Monday, Bollywood celebrities like megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor and Shilpa Shetty Kundra sent out wishes to their social media followers.

Janmashtami is a Hindu festival, celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna. The followers of Lord Krishna are passionate, and many keep a fast for the whole day until the puja is complete. The followers of Krishna sing, dance and feast on traditional festival foods while others fast until the birth of Krishna on Janmashtami till midnight. Special dishes are prepared on this occasion, and they reflect the foods that Lord Krishna was fond of. The breaking of the Dahi Handi is one of the main attractions of this festival.
