The queen of all Bollywood trades, and mom to three, choreographer-director-producer-actor Farah Khan has turned 53 today. Her first stint as choreographer was in the Aamir Khan starrer Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikande. To say she's come a long way since then, would be putting it mildly. She has successfully accomplished the task of choreographing 80 songs in over 100 films, including movies like Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. On her 53rd birthday, here’s a look at five foot-tapping songs directed by the National Award-winning choreographer.
Chaiyya Chaiyya (Dil Se)
Filming a song on the top of a running train is not easy, especially in a hilly terrain. But the manner in which Farah Khan pulled it off, would make your heart wanting to play it in a loop. The killer duo of Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora Khan tapping to the feet in this AR Rahman composition just adds to the beauty that this song encompasses.
Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan (Dil Chahta Hai)
Farhan Akhtar’s directorial debut cult film about three friends and their respective love lives became euphoric among fans. This song stood out of the lot which had Saif and Sonali donning a retro look with film fashion trends over the years. The song was sung by Shaan and Kavita Krishnamurthy, penned by lyricist Javed Akhtar and composed by music directors Shankar, Ehsaan & Loy.
Mahi Ve (Kal Ho Na Ho)
This song was a runaway hit where Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan celebrates the engagement of Naina and Rohit in the film. The song became familiar at every Indian wedding event along with the outfits. Sung by Sadhana Sargam, Sujata Bhattacharya, Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam & Shankar Mahadevan, it was composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and penned by Javed Akhtar.
It's the time to disco (Kal Ho Na Ho)
Disco dance just got better with this foot-tapping number from Karan Johar’s film Kal Ho Na Ho.
Sheila Ki Jawani (Tees Maar Khan)
This is one film Farah Khan would like to forget as a director in her career. The 2010 film tanked at the box office despite featuring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif. Had it not been for the Sheila Ki Jawani, the results would’ve been worse. Choreographed by Farah, Katrina’s seductive steps sparked adrenaline rush and got many a heart racing.
