Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone is excited about her next film Chhapaak, which will tell the story of an acid attack survivor. The actress has been away from the big screen for almost a year now after the release of her biggest period drama Padmaavat. "A story of trauma and triumph. And the unquashable human spirit. Elated to collaborate with Fox Star Studios on 'Chhapaak'," Deepika tweeted on Monday.
The Meghna Gulzar directorial is said to be based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. A Fox Star Hindi project, the film also stars Vikrant Massey in the lead.
Talking about Vikrant's character, Gulzar had shared: "He's a north Indian man who used to be a professional but decides to leave it all and become an actor. And then starts this campaign against acid attack violence. I'm glad Vikrant is a part of the film and I think I can speak for both Deepika and me that we're really excited that he's playing this part."
While the rumours were rife that actor Rajkummar Rao might play the lead role in the film but now it is confirmed that Vikrant Massey will be seen opposite the actress in Laxmi Agarwal’s biopic. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film is titled as Chhapaak.
Meghna also spilled the details about the film. She revealed that Chhapaak will be shot in Mumbai and Delhi and prosthetics tests are underway. Talking about the film, she said that during the research for the film the only person who came to her mind to play the lead role is Deepika. Meghna Added, “It was that organic because it’s such a moving story. And the decision to co-produce the film with her also happened organically because I wanted to remain close to it through the entire process.”
